Raclette Accessories: What You Need for a Relaxed Raclette Evening

Racletteschaber aus Olivenholz im Set für den Raclette-Abend

Raclette is the food of choice for long evenings: Everyone prepares their own little pan, and no one has to stand in the kitchen. To keep things relaxed at the table, a few little things matter more than an expensive appliance. Here you will find out which raclette accessories really help, how much cheese you should plan per person, and which side dishes are popular.

How much cheese per person?

As a rule of thumb, you should plan about 200 to 250 g of raclette cheese per person if raclette is the main meal. If there are many side dishes, 150 to 200 g is usually enough. Add to that around 200 to 300 g of potatoes per person, preferably waxy varieties cooked in their skins beforehand.

The most important accessories

Wooden raclette spatulas

Metal spatulas scratch the coated pans. The wooden raclette spatulas - set of 2, set of 3 ..... are about 13 cm long and lift the melted cheese without damaging the coating. Olive wood is hard, heat-resistant, and absorbs hardly any grease or odors. They are available in sets of 2 to 12, depending on the number of guests.

Coasters for the pans

A hot pan directly on the plate or tablecloth is not a good idea. The raclette pan coasters measure about 9 × 9 cm and fit most pans. Olive wood conducts heat slowly, thus protecting the surface underneath.

Cheese plane and grater

Not all cheese comes in one piece. With the DESIGN cheese plane with a turned olive wood handle, you can shave thin slices that melt quickly and evenly. For sprinkling Parmesan or mountain cheese, the olive wood hard cheese and nutmeg grater catches the grated cheese directly in a small drawer.

Bowls for the side dishes

So that no one has to reach across the table, distribute the ingredients into several small bowls. The oval tapas bowl 12 – 14 cm made of olive wood holds enough for gherkins, pearl onions, or corn. For baguette or bread, the RUSTIC bread bowl 35-39 cm made of olive wood is perfect.

Side dish ideas

  • Classic: jacket potatoes, gherkins, pearl onions, ham, or Bündner meat
  • Vegetables: mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini, small broccoli florets, corn
  • Sweet and savory: pear with walnut, fig, pineapple
  • Spices: freshly ground pepper, paprika powder, herbs de Provence

Tips for a relaxed evening

  • Cut the potatoes and vegetables beforehand and place them in bowls.
  • Take the cheese out of the refrigerator in good time, then it will melt more evenly.
  • Plan one spatula and one coaster per person to save waiting time.
  • A board with bread, butter, and dips complements the table for everyone who wants something different in between.

Care for the wooden accessories

Clean the wooden spatulas, coasters, and bowls by hand after eating, dry them thoroughly, and occasionally rub them with a little cooking oil. They are not dishwasher-safe. More information can be found in our care instructions, and you can find more kitchen accessories under Kitchen.
